Ok, let’s blog! Over the coming weeks, I will explore more practical usage on language technologies. I am participating in a course lead by Prof. Torsten Zesch at the University Duisburg-Essen.
All students will get to choose their own topics, which are mostly challenges of the annual SemEval workshops. There are a lot of different facets natural language processing (NLP) and I chose to analyse the sentiments in short messages, link here.
I guess we could call this a kind of hot topic with the recent stir that the search for possible suicide candidates on twitter by the Samaritans gave. My chosen task is a bit less controversial (I hope). The challenge is to identify (strong/weak) positive, negative or neutral sentiments towards a given topic.
I’ll keep you up to date on a weekly basis and hope that my non-native English isn’t too bad to read.
